Tread Team Member Feature: Deniz Kuran – Head of Marketing

Deniz Kuran

Could you please tell us about your background and your current role?

I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey and came to Canada at the age of 18 for university. I studied business at The University of British Columbia which made me a huge fan of Vancouver 😁 I have 10+ years of marketing experience in both B2B & B2C, mostly with tech companies. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in various industries such as consumer goods, e-commerce, SaaS, education technology and finally construction technology. I joined Tread in early 2020 as the Head of Marketing where I’ve built Tread’s marketing department from the ground up. I’m the go-to person for anything marketing related at Tread 😊

What do you like most about your job?

In my early days with Tread, I really enjoyed the opportunity and experience of building the marketing department from scratch. It was exciting, challenging, and highly rewarding to make such a big impact on Tread. Since we are a small team, I enjoy that I get to perform all different kinds of marketing functions on a daily basis. I also really like working side by side with other Tread team members -people at Tread were the main reason I joined the company! 

How do you like to spend time outside of work?

In the world of remote work I have divided my time between Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Turkey. I love changing my location and experiencing new neighbourhoods and cities, whether it’s for traveling or for living. I can proudly say that I’m an excellent airbnb negotiator 😁 I’m also a foodie, and love exploring new coffee shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores.

As a Head of Marketing, what’s an average work day like for you?

My day usually starts by checking the inbound leads that came in since the previous day. An ‘inbound lead’ occurs when a company interested in Tread submits their information on our website in order to learn more about our platform or to see a live demo. A big part of my role is to make sure we provide informative and engaging content on our website, blog, on social media and through email marketing channels. It’s very important to raise our brand awareness in the construction industry through ads, public relations, events and partnerships. Every day, I focus on at least a few of these channels so my job never gets stagnant 😁 I also work very closely with our sales and product teams; together we strategize, plan and execute on how to make our prospects’ decision making journey better, and how to inform our customers & prospects about our new products in the most engaging way.

What’s your favorite Tread feature and why?

I’m really impressed with our reports. It’s hard to pick just one since we have 10+ reports which each provide crucial and valuable insights for our customers. Whether you want to track your drivers, your site activity or your project performance, we provide real-time data and insights which help our customers run their business more efficiently and profitably.

From your perspective, how does Tread solve our customers’ challenges?

Although construction is one of the largest industries in the world, the tech adoption in the industry is still very low. Technology can be intimidating for many people. At Tread, we focus on how we can provide the technology in the most user-friendly way to help improve our customers’ lives. In all of the solutions we provide, our goal is to save our customers time or money. By helping them make their day to day business more efficient, we provide them the room to grow their business faster or to spend more time with their loved ones by making their business more efficient.

Is there a problem & solution that you’d love to work on in the future in the construction industry?

Any solution that saves taxpayer money by making the construction industry more efficient is interesting and important for me. While data collection and presentation is key, our focus should be how that data is turned into insights and suggestions for optimization.
