Tread Team Member Feature: Curt Lederle – Head of Sales

We interviewed Curt to get insights about how Tread helps solve our customers’ and industry’s challenges.

Curt Lederle

Could you please tell us about your background and your current role?

I’ve been in and around construction my whole life. Raised in a family of architects and engineers, I studied Civil Engineering with a focus on structural design. I’ve worked on all sides of construction projects ranging from designing high rises in New York, to overseeing project financing in San Francisco, to being on site for inspections in Toronto. After working for a time as an engineer, I transitioned into business and prior to Tread have sold everything from utility scale wind turbines and service agreements to SaaS communication API platforms. In recent years I have built and scaled high growth SaaS start-ups and sales teams, typically as the first hire in the US as international companies scale up operations.

What do you like most about your job?

This really is a dream job of getting to pull all my experience together. I love the entrepreneurial nature of building sales teams and the do-whatever-it-takes mentality of start ups. Beyond that, it’s important to me to be making a real impact with the clients we serve and the work they do. At the end of the day, we get to help empower our clients and partners by building helpful tools for the people who are literally the boots on the ground building critical infrastructure… which we desperately need!

How do you like to spend time outside of work?

Outside of work I try to get outside as much as possible. Whether that’s walking with family and friends (and dogs), surfing, hiking, sailing, biking, skiing or skating… I’m up for it. If I’m not at my desk or out and about, you can likely find me in my shop working on my latest DIY project or playing video games with friends all over the world.

As a Head of Sales, what’s an average work day like for you?

In this role, the only constant is change! Ultimately, the clients come first. My first priority is making sure that the amazing sales team at Tread has everything they need to succeed and support our clients. That could be providing direction on accounts and territories, or updating presentations and resources to facilitate their discussions, or getting up to speed on the latest product developments and features being released every week. To make sure that the team has what they need, that also means interfacing with Product, Marketing, Customer Support, Engineering and any external partners we work with to make sure we’re all working toward the same goals.

What’s your favourite Tread feature and why?

I’m particularly excited about our live maps and reporting. Seeing all the trucks (including subcontractors) on a live map (with no hardware required) and being able to easily access real-time data on reporting time, materials and budget for a project is incredibly powerful – and often net new information for our clients. As a data geek, I always get excited about providing more actionable insights whenever we can.

From your perspective, how does Tread solve our customers’ challenges?

The first step is digitizing the process. Many of our clients are moving off of old antiquated systems that don’t talk to each other and can often be black holes of information that only some people can access, usually after the fact. The second step is providing net new information. Tread gives new tools, within familiar workflows, that for the first time are providing our clients with up-to-the-minute real data on their operations that they’ve never had before. Together that saves real time and money on the front end, and provides information on the back end for making data driven decisions on how they can improve and grow their businesses.

Is there a problem & solution that you’d love to work on in the future in the construction industry?

Our clients, and construction and trucking companies in general, face an enormous amount of regulation. From the Municipal, State and Federal levels there are constantly evolving rules that these folks need to navigate. We’re already working on it, but I’m really excited to continue to help make all these compliance requirements more streamlined for our clients to allow them to focus on what they do best, and get to delivering materials and fueling the infrastructure of tomorrow. If we can solve those challenges while also making their businesses more efficient and data driven that’s a win-win-win in my book!
